Stock blanks are prepared by bandsawing to optimum size before being copied in the purpose built pantograph against an existing stock.
Stock blank is copied and profiled to shape from an original or master stock
by a high speed manually controlled router.
Inlet routing is dressed and sized to action.
Cutter marks are removed by hand before being sanded and scraped to enhance the natural grain.
Various grades of Walnut stocking timber can be selected. Walnut is available in different species, grains, grades and age - all of which affects the quality and price of the timber blank, the final finish and the overall cost.
Talk to us about your expectation.
To achieve a high level of metal to wood fit and accuracy requires many hours of hand detailing. Discuss your budget and expectations with regard to hand finishing. Accurate work with a high degree of finish takes time.
Traditional hand rubbed oil finishes are available to complete your project.
Greg uses and recommends Birchwood Casey 'Tru-Oil' stock finish.
Other finishes are available on request.
Various patterns of checkering can be applied to finished stocks.
Shown here is 'fleur with ribbon' pattern.
Custom pistol grip caps and forends can be added to finished stocks.
Custom forends can be fitted in other species of timber.
Add interest with custom laminates, coloured recoil pad spacers.
Add a thumbhole or cheek piece.
Actions are bedded using Devcon products to ensure stability.
Recoil pads supplied to your requirement.
The first routing cuts to a rifle stock being copied on the custom-made pantograph prior to hand finishing, checkering and hand-fitting to action. In this video the original damaged stock was re-glued to use as a template and is located under the copying mandrel being directed by the operator's hands.
Action in-letting is carefully copied from the parent stock. Accuracy of a fraction of a millimetre is required to ensure that the action fits snugly.
